Low E Glass, the Best Choice of Energy Saving and Environmental Protect
Latest company news about Low E Glass, the Best Choice of Energy Saving and Environmental Protect

Low-E glass, also known as low-e glass, is a film product consisting of multiple layers of metal or other compounds coated on the glass surface. Its coating layer has the characteristics of high transmission of visible light and high reflection of middle and far infrared rays, which makes it have an excellent heat insulation effect and good light transmittance compared with ordinary glass and traditional architectural coated glass.

Superior thermal performance

The heat loss of external door and window glass is the main part of the energy consumption of buildings, accounting for more than 50% of the energy consumption of buildings. Heat transfer from the inner surface of the glass is dominated by radiation, accounting for 58%, which means that the most effective way to reduce heat loss from changing the performance of the glass is to inhibit radiation from its inner surface. The emissivity of ordinary float glass is as high as 0.84, and when coated with a layer of silver-based low-emissivity film, its emissivity can be reduced to below 0.15. Therefore, the use of Low-E glass in the manufacture of windows and doors of buildings can greatly reduce the transfer of indoor heat energy to the outdoors caused by radiation, and achieve the desired energy-saving effect.

Another significant benefit of reduced indoor heat loss is environmental protection. During the cold season, emissions of harmful gases such as CO2 and SO2 caused by heating buildings are an important source of pollution. When Low-E glass is used, the reduction in heat loss significantly reduces the amount of fuel consumed for heating, thereby reducing harmful emissions.

The heat passing through the glass is bidirectional, i.e., the heat can be transferred from the interior to the exterior and vice versa, and at the same time.

In winter, the indoor temperature is higher than the outdoor temperature, requiring insulation. In summer, the indoor temperature is lower than the outdoor temperature, so the requirement of the glass can be insulated, that is, the outdoor heat is transferred to the indoor as little as possible. Low-E glass can achieve the requirements of winter and summer, both heat preservation and thermal insulation, to play the role of environmental protection and low carbon.

‘Low-E’ coated insulating glass is a good material for energy saving and lighting. It has a high solar transmittance and a very low ‘u’ value. (The amount of air-to-air heat transfer that occurs under ASHRAE standard conditions due to glass heat transfer and the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors." The lower the ‘u’ value, the lower the amount of heat transfer through the glass and the better the insulation of the window glass.)

Typically, clear glass has an emissivity of 0.84, while most ‘Low-E’ coated glass has an emissivity of between 0.25 ~ 0.35.

Moreover, due to the effect of coating, the heat reflected by ‘Low-E’ glass is returned to the room, making the temperature near the window glass higher, and people will not feel too uncomfortable near the window glass.

In buildings with Low-E glass, the indoor temperature is relatively high, so that in winter, the indoor temperature can be kept relatively high without frost, which makes people indoors feel more comfortable." Low-E glass blocks a small amount of ultraviolet radiation, which helps to prevent colour fading in the interior.
