The Differences Between Insulated Glass And Laminated Glass
Latest company news about The Differences Between Insulated Glass And Laminated Glass

1. Insulated Glass

Insulated glass is created by sealing the edges of two or more glass panels together, forming a stationary dry gas layer between them with some vacuum properties. High-strength, high-airtightness composite adhesives bond the glass panels to an aluminium alloy frame containing desiccant, resulting in excellent thermal insulation, soundproofing, and heat retention properties. It is commonly used in building doors and windows.

1) Sound insulation performance is significantly better than that of single-pane glass. Depending on the thickness of the glass and the insulated layer, noise reduction can range from 27 to 40 decibels.

2) The wind pressure resistance of insulated glass is 15 times that of single-pane glass;

3) Excellent thermal insulation performance with significant energy-saving effects. The energy-saving performance of insulated glass is primarily measured by its thermal conductivity coefficient (K-value). For example, the thermal conductivity coefficient of 6 mm+12A+6 mm insulated glass is approximately 2.70 W/(m²·K), while that of 10 mm+12A+10 mm insulated glass is approximately 2.65 W/(m²·K). The thermal conductivity coefficient is significantly lower than that of single-pane glass.

2. Laminated glass

Laminated glass consists of two or more sheets of float glass bonded together with a strong PVB (polyvinyl butyral) interlayer. The layers are pressed together under heat and pressure to remove as much air as possible, then placed in a high-pressure steam autoclave where residual air is dissolved into the interlayer under high temperature and pressure.

Laminated glass made with tempered glass offers excellent safety performance and is commonly used for interior partitions, balustrades, stage floors, and large-scale curtain walls.

1) Compared to other types of glass, laminated glass offers earthquake resistance, burglary prevention, bulletproofing, and explosion resistance. While it may shatter under heavy impact, the fragments remain adhered to the interlayer film and do not fall off to cause injury.

2) Additionally, PVB laminates have UV filtering capabilities. Data shows that PVB film can absorb over 99% of UV rays, thereby protecting indoor furniture, plastic products, textiles, carpets, and artwork from fading and aging caused by UV radiation.

3) PVB film has excellent damping properties, effectively absorbing and blocking sound transmission. The sound insulation performance of ordinary PVB can reach 20-35 decibels.

3. Differences between insulated glass and laminated glass

1) Laminated glass has excellent seismic resistance and explosion-proof performance, while insulated glass has better thermal insulation properties.

2) In terms of sound insulation, laminated glass, due to its superior seismic resistance, is less likely to produce noise from self-vibration during strong winds. Especially for mid-to-low frequencies, laminated glass offers superior sound insulation performance; insulated glass, however, is prone to resonance.

However, when it comes to blocking external noise, insulated glass has a slight advantage.

3) In terms of application, laminated glass is commonly used for railings and partitions, while insulated glass is primarily used for doors and windows.
